Football League confirm Channel 5 highlights show

The Football League and Channel 5 have finally confirmed a new TV deal which will see a prime-time highlights show screened every Saturday night.

The League has struck a three-year agreement which will see Football League highlights transfer from BBC to Channel 5.

It means the end of the BBC's Football League show and League highlights being screened before Match of the Day rather than in their current "graveyard" late-night slot.

Details of the deal include:
> A new 90-minute highlights show on Channel 5 every Saturday night at 9pm featuring goals from every Championship, League 1 and League 2 game.
> Highlights shows for both the Capital One Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
> Goals/highlights also being screened via Channel 5 and Sky Sports' websites (Sky remain the broadcaster for live match coverage).
> ITN Productions will produce the match coverage from all three divisions while Channel 5 is currently tendering out production of the new show with the presenting and punditry line-up to be confirmed.

On Twitter, the BBC Football League Show host Manish Bhasin expressed his sadness at the end of the show, but appeared to concede it is screened too late:
