Sky Sports the big winner in new Premier League TV deal

Sky Sports has emerged the big winner in the battle for live Premier League TV rights taking four out of the five packages awarded so far.

It means from the start of the 2019-20 season, Sky will screen more live matches from the top-flight division than ever before - and crucially they've secured the first pick match from every weekend set of fixtures.

It means Sky's flagship Super Sunday and Monday Night Football shows along with Friday Night Football will continue. And they've snatched the new Saturday 7.45pm kick-offs (eight games a season) which have been made available for the first time.

BT Sport have secured Saturday lunchtime kick-offs, but don't hold any first-pick matches. However, two more packages of matches have gone to a third round of bidding meaning BT could yet pick up more matches. Under the auction rules, Sky can only take one more package of games - and there remains the possibility of Amazon or another company competing with Sky & BT for the remaining games.

WHO'S GOT WHAT PACKAGES SO FAR (SEASONS 2019-22):
SKY SPORTS - 128 games per season (34 first pick matches)
32 matches Saturdays 5.30pm
(15 first picks, five third picks, 12 fifth picks)

32 matches Sundays 2pm (24) and Saturdays 7.45pm (8)
(14 second picks, 18 fourth picks)

32 matches Sundays 4.30pm
(19 first picks, seven third picks, six fourth picks)

32 matches Mondays 8pm or Fridays (7.30-8pm) (24) and Sundays 2pm (8)
(22 third picks, 10 fourth picks)

BT SPORT - 32 games a season (No first pick matches)
32 matches Saturdays 12.30pm
(20 second picks, 12 fifth picks)

STILL TO BE AWARDED - 40 games a season (gone to a third round of bidding, Sky Sports only eligible to take on more package)
- All 20 matches from one bank holiday and one midweek fixture programme (to potentially be screened simultaneously on each match night/day)
- All 20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes (to potentially be screened simultaneously on each match night/day)

So far the amount Sky and BT will pay has hit £4.464billion. The Premier League say there is "interest from multiple bidders" for the final two packages of rights which are likely to be awarded by the end of the week.
