Quest takes over from Channel 5 for EFL highlights show

Regular highlights of the EFL are to move from Channel 5 to Freeview channel Quest from next season.

Quest - which is part of the Discovery network of channels which also runs Eurosport - has struck a four-year deal with the EFL.

Under the agreement, Quest will continue to screen Saturday night highlights in a primetime 9pm 90-minute slot. The channel has also confirmed Colin Murray - who currently hosts Channel 5's highlights - will also present Quest's new show.

As well as the Saturday show, Quest has pledged to screen a highlights of every midweek round of EFL fixtures while the deal also covers highlights of the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

Quest says all the programmes will be available on-demand and is also exploring options for the show to be screened in high definition. Its current Freeview service (on channel 37, via Sky 144, Virgin 172 and Freesat 167) is only available in standard definition.

Quest says it will use its sister station Eurosport's production expertise to make a "high-quality free-to-air highlights show that is accessible, catering for all football fans".

Colin Murray said: "After a really good year, I'm delighted to stay as anchor for proper football. The most important things are the fans, the clubs and the players. We will be all about the football, from the results to the community around it.

"Working for Discovery before, I already know how serious they are about sport, and they'll no doubt handle the EFL highlights with passion and expertise."

Murray will also host a weekly Facebook show made by Quest on the EFL called The Reaction.
