Sky Sports has lost its live rights to LaLiga games to little-known broadcaster Eleven Sports.
Sky has held the rights for more than 20 years and it's not clear how Eleven Sports will screen the games as they currently have no UK channel at the moment, although they broadcast in seven other countries.
Eleven was founded by the Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani and could launch a new UK channel to show the matches or offer them digitally.
The three-year deal for the UK and Ireland - which will start next season - gives Eleven the chance to show EVERY LaLiga match live and exclusive. The company owns the rights for LaLiga in Belgium and Poland.
Eleven says it will announce details in the coming weeks of "the innovative ways in which it will package and distribute the action which will bolster how live sport is currently delivered and give fans increased access and flexibility in their viewing options".
Although Eleven can show the LaLiga games, it's understood the agreement allows it to sub-let the games. It means it could show all matches itself or allow Sky, BT or other broadcasters to screen the games at a price.
There is now speculation that Eleven may try and win the rights to the final remaining unsold live Premier League TV matches.
Four of the packages for the three seasons from 2019-20 were won by Sky with BT taking the other. But two packages - for midweek and bank holiday games - remain unsold with Sky and BT so far failing to meet the reserve price.
Sky has adopted a policy of not paying what it considers over the odds for live TV rights.
While it will be disappointed to lose LaLiga, the rights are nowhere near as important to Sky as the Premier League and EFL contracts it holds.
